Iranian Fashion
Iranian fashion? You must be kidding me. What we know from CNN and BBC, all Iranian women always wear black and big robe. In this spring, Iranian police are prepare to warn any woman wearing colourful and fashionable dress.
It’s against Islamic law, goverment said. But there are some Iranian fashion designers make their collection. Not looked like hijab at all. Of course they’re not made in Iran.
One of them is Sanaz Shirazi who was launched for about a year ago of the Shirazi sisters… within a years time the collection has been sold to shops in many countries in Europe and Asia.
The Sanaz Shirazi collection is having amazing reviews in the press, in fashion magazines and has been featured in ELLE and Costume among others.
The collection was sold at the Billion Dollar Babes event in Chicago and New York, which did amazingly well. She has also been collaborating with the Sundance Film festival 2007.
Sanaz Shirazi’s own words:
“Earlier this year me together with my sis, made our first collection of gilets. It all started with my mum’s reversible fur/suede coat that she had bought in India in the 70s. My inspiration is from my upbringing in Persia and my childhood in India, where I attended an English school…My second home England and holidays to Cornwall, on the south west coast of the country… And of course Norway where I have been aised…..The Norwegian nature is a true inspiration! As for my background goes, I went to a business school and have a BA in International marketing. I always felt there was something missing when I was working within several marketing jobs, I wanted to set up my own company and be more creative. A true inspiration is Hafez Shirazi. Hafez was a very famous Persian poet from 1300 Century Shiraz. His poems are amazing, very beautiful and romantic. The images from Hafez and Persian rugs will be embroidered on the logo of the vests, which symbolizes some of my Persian heritage. Our fur gilets are a combination of boho, young, and down to earth designs…Fur doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive. Our philosophy is to make wearable, timeless clothing.”
