It is still unsure whether ‘Batik‘ word’s origin is Javanese from amba (’to write’) and titik (’dot’ or ‘point’), or constructed from a hypothetical Proto-Austronesian root *beCík, meaning ‘to tattoo’ from the use of a needle in the process. The word is first recorded in English in the Encyclopædia Britannica of 1880, [...]

What pops up on your mind when you see yellow? Mellow? Bright? Banana?
Thakoon said, “It’s so punk, and a little dosage of it can really punch things up,” and he applied it to a prim suit. Burberry Prorsum, Jean Paul Gaultier, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang and other dozen of designers also brought yellow to the [...]

Still from Japan Fashion Week Fall 08-09, another designer that caught my attention was Mikio Sakabe. She showed chic and playful outfits, made us feel like watching the dolls were walking on the runway.
Mikio Sakabe graduated from ESMOD Paris in 2002, and continued her fashion education in Hogeschool Antwerpen, Fashion Department, Antwerp, Belgium, to 2006.
