Toraja in Camus

Last year, together with France anniversary, Camus–a popular cognac premium France brand–choosed Toraja coffee as a newest variant for its product, placed at Shy Café, The Pappilon Kemang. This cafe was also become the first café in Jakarta that sale this product.

camuslaunch-content.jpgThose Arabica and Robusta Coffee from Tana Toraja were   choosen for a reason. The picking process  and coffee grinding are most likely same with the grape plantation in Cognac which is the main Camus Cognac composition.

The most sad part for me is : why couldn’t Toraja Coffee go international by standing on its own brand? This is painful. Really.

The Ideal Coffee Mousse

What happen to your tongue when it tastes too much gelatin and whipping cream? No coffee kick but a little strange oily cream fills your mouth. Well, it such an unpleasant drink.

dsc02232.JPGYesterday I had my lunch at Cihampelas Walk. Not in Starbucks, but a common lunch place. Finished with Nasi Ayam Hainan, I then ordered a cup of Coffee Mouse, but I was then–dissapointed. How could them mix a bad composition of gelatin and whipping cream into the water?

I think, they’ll need this ideal coffee mousse recipe :

Ingredients will be : maxwell house instant coffee, 1 1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin will be OK for 2/3 cup whipping cream, boiling water, sugar, and coffee beans.

It will tasted really good without being overly rich with the gelatin nor the whipping cream!

Coffee and Woman’s Health

Today is a funny day. As a caffeinated woman, I was surprised finding an article about the negative impact of caffeine on women’s health”. Seems interesting, I then fallen into the reading and found some scary thing–if I couldn’t say them as facts :)

coffee.jpgIt was written that woman in childbearing age is not recommended to drink coffee. Reduced consumption of caffeine will help relieve some of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

OK, maybe I should lowering my coffee consumption before my period.

Then, elimination of caffeine is recommended for it seems to have an adverse affect on women’s fertility. It was also mentioned that pregnant women who take in caffeine tend to give birth to considerably smaller babies who, after birth, display signs of caffeine withdrawal because the caffeine had permeated the placental barrier.

That serious? Hmm..

Caffeine is also known to cause heart palpitations in pregnant women.

In another part, caffeine blocks the absorption of the minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin D) which are needed to prevent or reverse this condition; therefore bone density decreases as osteoporosis worsens.

Till this part, I stopped reading the article and closed the tab :)

Coffee For Once

Rain was suddenly dropped by the time we enter Sbux at Cihampelas. It was cold outside, very cold. I couldn’t help my skin from freezing, so I just asked a Hot Frappucino. I have my coffee with him. Sit at the warmest seat and have our lovely hours passed.

You know, everytime you walk your day with the one you love, it will be passed fast. Too fast, indeed. frappucino.jpgSo this time, in the middle of a rainy and romantic Xmas, for once in my life, i want my coffee and my love in full package. We were there for about two hours :D Anyway, this is Sbux’s Christmas cup. Red and Santa Clausy :) Cute, isn’t?

And.. because this year is about to end, I would like to wish you all the warmest New Year. Better life ahead!

Eatable Espresso

espesso_cup_chicago_1.jpgEat coffee? How come? This must be the first thought that come in through your mind seeing the title above.

Yeah, Ferran Adria has succeed creating a new semi solid espresso and served the customers in Lavazza cafes, Chicago. Actually, the recipes was quite similar to an ordinary espresso :  espresso plus cream, sugar and powdered gelatin popped into a whip canister and foamed into a cup.

Err, how could Ferran create this kind of unique espresso? I am so wondering, how will be the espresso taste like!

Coffee + Acetaminophen = Toxic To Liver?

In the article written by David Gutierrez–a staff writer in Natural News–it was mentioned that drinking coffee with acetaminophen will be extremely dangerous for the liver.

circle.jpg This fact is due to the active ingredient in Tylenol that can be reactive to caffeine, results a certain toxic to liver. This finding was reported in the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology.

The researcher used E.Coli in the experiment, but in other voice, British health expert Dr. Simon Thomas said that there are a million miles between E. coli and humans in terms of how paracetamol and caffeine are metabolized.

So, because there still an uncertainty about the finding, they just advised caution in mixing the two drugs.

Oh, Global Warming Impacts Our Coffee!

The effect of global warming has been widely spread all around the world. Climate change, weather is unpredictable.

istock_coffee_plant.jpg

Beside other common effects, the bad news is : global warming is also impacting our coffee! What? How could this be possible?

NaturalNews explained that global warming has been substantially impacting coffee crops around the world. It was mentioned that global warming has a significant effect to agricultural industries, and coffee beans crops are included, because the erratic forces will affect the coffee plants and beans, less and more. For instances, in some coffee countries like Central America, Brazil, Africa, and India, farmer are facing an irretrievable losses.

Well, coffee plants are depends greatly on the timing of rainfall, and the amount of rainfall itself. There are certain periods where the coffee plants need more rainfall, and thirst as well. If the season can not be predicted, too much rainfall, or too long dry season, it will no longer fulfill the necessity of growing plantation. The farmer can do nothing, and this is the most hurtful part :(

Choosing The Best Coffee

All of coffee lovers must have an ideal taste of coffee. Different person, different taste. However, in the process of choosing coffee, everybody must expect the best coffee quality.

mch_coffee.jpgSo, I think this coffee choosing tips below will be very useful for you. Check them out!

1. Start your search with local roasters. Well, local farmer may have some traditional coffee that others don’t have.Perhaps, you’ll find gem or something different from branded coffee, but this is the interesting part, believe me :)

2. Do roasting! This is one of the way to get a great taste of coffee.

3. Taste the distinct flavors and sweetness of the coffee choice you want to buy. It is mentioned in some books that the higher quality coffee lends themselves to distinct flavors and sweetness regardless if they are dark roasts, medium or light roasts. A good bean roasted lightly will still be sweet with a touch of bitterness whereas a good bean dark roasted will be akin to a desert that contains nuts.

4. Do not use your coffee beans roasted after ten days prior, because they will simply taste like boring, unsweetened cocoa, and of course the taste will not fit your tongue well :)

5. Before brewing your coffee, you’d better grind it first. Taste the different!

Last but not least, I suggest you to release all of the problem in your heart, all things bother your mind, take a long breath, and drink a cup of that inspiration :)
