As someone that enjoys a nice hot pizza brought right to your door, you might only decide whether the pizza delivery person was successful or dropped the ball (or pizza!). It might be fun to look at the pizza delivery process from the flip side of the coin. Here are a few things that you might not know about all that your pizza delivery person experiences while working hard to earn that tip.
- Pizza delivery people own their own vehicles- The vast majority of pizzerias do not provide company cars. Instead they provide a magnetic sign or other type of temporary marking for them to use on their own vehicle.
- Pizza delivery people cover their own vehicle expenses- While pizzerias do cover some of the costs, it can really add up when you consider needing new brake pads four times a year, an oil change every four to six weeks, a couple tanks of gas a week, business insurance, and the other wear and tear that comes with driving between 25,000 and 40,000 miles a year.
- A common reason for a late pizza is difficult to read house numbers- If you want your pizza delivery to be on time, consider upgrading your house number to make it more legible, especially at night.
- For each aggravating thing that pizza delivery drivers face, there are dozens of thoughtful customers that make it worth it- If it was all annoying, few would do it, so if you want to keep getting those tasty hot pizzas, consider being generous with your tip and doing your best to brighten their day.
- Ways you can help your pizza delivery person- If it is winter, be sure the walkway is free of snow and ice. Be friendly, but don’t detain them with a lot of idle chit chat. Be sure to give the right house number when ordering. Tip generously, even if the order is late or messed up, because issues like that are rarely the driver’s fault.
When you think about the joy of getting a hot pizza without having to get dressed and put shoes on, one can really feel appreciation for pizza delivery! It’s not the easiest job in the world, but imagine a world without it.
