Standing seam metal roofing is an ingenious gift of technology. However, as much as it’s reliable, like many other metal roofing, it deserves your attention too for it to offer quality shelter.
With proper care and attention, it can last for 50+ years!
So how should you keep your precious roof in top shape?
- Clear Any Branches Touching it
If you’ve got a tree over your home, spare some time and check if any of its branches are in contact with your roof. These branches can poke holes into your roof.
Cut off any branches or clear off any sticks that land on your roof as soon as you notice them.
- Keep Debris Away
Leaves, pieces of paper, and other debris can not only stain the standing seam metal roofing, but damage the metal as well.
Use water, a blower, or a stiff broom to clear off the mess.
- Remove Snow
As soon as snow falls on your roof, don’t let it settle as it will damage the framing. Use a snow rake that’s ideal for metal to gently clear it away. Applying force may cause scratches on the roof surface, therefore encouraging rusting.
- Don’t Walk on it
Walking on your standing seam metal roofing compromises its integrity. Its thin nature makes them susceptible to puncturing and bending.
If you really must, ensure that you stand on the flat part of the panels and support yourself with the purlins or joists.
